Year 5 win national Teen Tech design competition

Nine Year 5 pupils visited the Emirates stadium this week to compete in the National Final of the Teen Tech design competition. The pupils succeeded in winning three different categories, best domestic building, environment friendly housing and mixed use building!
The project started some weeks ago when Year 5 worked with Year 7 mentors at Leighton Park School to design for a ‘City of Tomorrow’ and build it using mostly recycled materials.

St. Mary’s pupils enjoyed workshops about cyber security, virtual reality design and model vehicle programming. A highlight was a tour of the stadium including special ‘backstage’ access to the changing rooms, the VIP area and a players’ view of the pitch coming out from the tunnel.

TeenTech City of Tomorrow offers students the opportunity to apply their knowledge of science, technology and engineering to create their City of Tomorrow where no ideas are too big and everything is smarter, kinder and safer than before. The activity highlights career pathways in construction, engineering and technology and promotes good citizenship.
