Year 4 Science Investigation

In a recent Science lesson, Year 4 enjoyed dissecting Barn Owl pellets.
The children were investigating what animals had been eaten and become prey for the Owls.
The pellets were collected from an owl roosting site and contained the regurgitated remains of voles and similar small animals, including bones, fur, teeth and claws.
It was very exciting to find whole skulls, as well as many tiny bones, which the class compared and matched to a chart of a vole skeleton.
The children were fascinated by the task and worked carefully to remove the tiny bones, some of which were only a few millimetres long!
