Together at Home

St. Mary’s School remains committed to providing an excellent education for all our pupils, regardless of the setting. We know that nothing can replace actually being in school in its physical sense, but we hope that, through our Online Teaching and Learning Programme, our children will continue to love learning and be challenged, both within and beyond the ‘classroom’.

We are currently living through such unusual and unprecedented times, which can be most unsettling for our children. As well as prioritising their physical health as we remain at home, we also need to look after their mental health and wellbeing, keeping a sense of normality and daily routine, whilst providing opportunities for them to flourish.

The coming weeks will undoubtedly contain many new challenges, but we are sure that, by working together as a school community, our children will enjoy structured learning experiences, punctuated by opportunities to recharge and pursue more open-ended activities, thus maintaining a happy balance between their academic and pastoral needs.

I was astounded by the resilience, creativity and enthusiasm demonstrated by pupils at St. Mary’s over the final eight days of the Spring Term, and I am confident I will be witnessing more of the same traits as we embark on the new term.

Their collective response to this national crisis embodied the values of St. Mary’s with the School community demonstrating Courage in light of what each and every one of us are dealing with personally and collectively, working collaboratively to ensure we make the most of our online learning in the home environment, pupils displaying their Independence and resilience against the odds, being Honest with each other in the face of uncertainty and making the best of their strengths and adapting to their weaknesses, whilst also showing Respect both at home with our families and online with our peers and teachers.

I do hope that it will not be too long before we are all back together, and when we are, it will be all the more special.

Thank you once again for your continued support as we partner together in this journey.

With warmest wishes,

Rob Harmer
