Hands on Science for Year 4!

In Science this week, as part of their habitats topic, Year 4 looked at how oil pollution at sea can damage organisms including birds, fish, plants and coral reefs.
They then built a model beach area and tested different ways to remove a floating oil sheen.
The children discovered that the most effective method was using rabbit hair to absorb the oil, then a flexible boom to collect the soaked hair for removal.
The class really enjoyed the practical hands on session, and coming up with their own creative ideas about ways in which to remove the oil.
