Private school values and ethos
There are many different types of school available for your child, state, private school, Montessori, religious, single-sex, co-ed and the list goes on. Each of these different types of schools has pros and cons, the most important factor that you should consider when reviewing the different types of school is what is best for your child and your family unit.
If religion is something that as a family is very important to you, then choosing a religious school might be something to consider for your child. A religious school places a focus on the belief that you practice on a daily basis and encourages your child to practise the methods and lessons that you regard as highly valuable.
If you have decided that you would like your child to sit the 11+ exam, then a preparatory school would be a great option to review. Particularly as a prep school will have the expertise to guide your child through the 11+ process and prepare them for the rest of their educational journey. Be sure to review any prospective school’s exam results and inspection reports, to ensure that as well as wellbeing on the same level in terms of belief systems, the results are to your satisfaction.
St. Mary’s ethos and values
Here at St Mary’s school, religion is something that we use to guide us morally. The most important thing for us is every student’s well being and academic success. We aim to instil a love of learning for life in all our pupils and to provide them with a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment that helps them grow personally and academically. We want all of our students to develop a sense of self-respect and consideration for others, becoming well-balanced and healthy individuals in both body, mind and spirit in preparation for their educational journey ahead.
Our school values are Honesty, Independence, Collaboration, Respect and Courage. We aim to:
- Work in partnership with parents to encourage the development of a love of learning within a structured, broad and balanced curriculum with additional extra-curricular opportunities
- Nurture individual pupil diversity, celebrating individual talents and achievements in a wide range of fields, including academic, music, sport, art and drama
- Develop a sense of self-respect and consideration for others becoming well-balanced and healthy individuals in both body, mind and spirit in preparation for their educational journey ahead
Results and Reports
Our academic results speak for themselves, results from our yearly progress tests consistently exceed the national average in all subjects. The average standardised score for our children at the end of year 6 (including our children with SEN) was at least 15 points higher than the national average of 100. Our latest inspection results from the School Inspection Service noted that “Many pupils make outstanding progress”. We believe this stems from the guidance and support that is provided to each individual child to guide them towards achieving their full potential.
We would love for you to come and experience everything that we have to offer here at St. Mary’s, come and pay us a visit to see for yourself the opportunities that are waiting for you and your child or request a prospectus to learn more.
