We closely monitor all of our pupils as they progress through the school and work hard to create a nurturing learning environment that challenges every child as they develop. We’re proud of the progress they make at every stage, which was highlighted in our latest inspection report.

Many pupils make outstanding progress
In the early years we use an online application that allows parents to log in and see their child’s progress. Comments from teachers and photographs taken during the school day serve as a progress record.
At the end of the summer term in Kindergarten, we write an Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) report for every child, which will explain the level they’ve reached across seven specific areas of learning.
Throughout Years 1 to 6, all the pupils are regularly assessed, with standardised reading and spelling tests introduced in Year 1 and Year 2 respectively. We also conduct cognitive ability testing in Years 4 and 5, and all our pupils sit national assessments in English, Mathematics and Science from Year 1.
In our most recent GL assessment, our pupils were found to be at an above average level when they leave Year 6 and are therefore very well prepared to start their secondary education. The number of pupils who receive scholarships at their next schools for their academic, music or artistic achievements is a testament to the quality of education we provide here at St Mary’s.
