Learning Support
We believe that all children have a right to be equally valued, and to have their abilities or learning needs catered for. We are committed to taking all reasonable steps to ensure that all children and carers are welcomed and included. We follow the guidance of the Code of Practice for Special Educational Needs, which recommends a graduated approach, making small changes to the environment and to activities so that all children can benefit.
The progress of all children is regularly observed and monitored using the Oxfordshire Foundation Stage Profile; this progress is shared through informal daily contact and once a term through individual parents' meetings. If any concerns are raised and if a child needs more support, further discussion with parents takes place to agree an Individual Educational Plan (IEP). This is called Early Years Action. If a child needs help from services outside the school e.g. speech and language therapy, they may help in drawing up an IEP. This stage is Early Years Action Plus. IEPs are reviewed at least once a term with parents. For some children this may lead to an assessment by the LEA and a child receiving a Statement of Special Educational Need. We work with the LEA to obtain this statement and to meet the needs of these children.
If there are any concerns or difficulties, parents should first approach Sarah Cook or Tracey Baker in Nursery and Ruth Peters or Claire Hart in Kindergarten. Our work with parents and carers is always confidential, and respectful of their wishes, taking into account the wishes and preferences of the child. Special Needs work is co-ordinated by Kate Bodle who is the Special Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo) for the whole school.
