The Early Years at St Mary's School

When children start at St Mary's, our first aim is to give  them a happy, positive and confident introduction to school life.  We provide a  friendly and caring atmosphere in which the children will thrive emotionally and educationally. 

All through the school, we believe that  education should allow children to fulfil  their academic potential, to know and value themselves and to experience school as an exciting and enjoyable place.  We want children to be able to think for themselves and to develop independence and self discipline.

We value self-esteem as an important part of a well-rounded, fulfilled person which can be easily stifled through education.   Self esteem or self confidence comes initially from parental attitudes and as early years practitioners we can play a part in helping a parent to value their child as well as enhancing a child's feeling about him/herself.
