Art
Art stimulates creativity and imagination through visual, tactile and sensory experiences which we provide from the earliest years.
Children from year 2 onwards have time-tabled art lessons in our purpose built art and D.T. room. They learn about colour, pattern, line, texture, shape and form using 2D and 3D materials and processes enabling them to communicate what they see, feel and think.
Reference is made to works of art from different times and cultures, and visits to museums and galleries are made regularly. Children are encouraged to compare methods, ideas and approaches in their own and others work. Our teachers value each child's contribution taking care not to make comparisons or judgements which can so easily stifle creativity and lower the children's confidence in their abilities. We place great value on displaying the children's work around the school.
Art is enjoyed by all the children at St. Mary's and the after school art clubs are always very popular.
